The Middlesex Savings Bank Speaker Series Presents:

Barnes and Noble Booksellers, in partnership with Autism Speaks, will host a Let's Be Friends Story time: An Autism Awareness Event in honor of National Autism Awareness Month, featuring special guest, Allison Daigle of the Autism Alliance of MetroWest, Inc.

Designed for children from ages 6 to 10, along with parents and educators, this event will feature a reading of the terrific children's book, Since We're Friends: An Autism Picture Book, by Celeste Shally and David Harrington, followed by a fun learning activity.  Copies of the story time discussion questions, activity sheets and a suggested reading list will be available.

Be sure to join us on Friday, April 11n 2008 at 7:00 pm at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, One Worcester Road (in Shopper's World), Framingham.

Facilitating Social Skills

Impairment in the area of social skills is one of the defining criteria of a diagnosis of a Pervasive Development Disorder. Many parents of children with autism struggle with trying to help their child to develop appropriate social skills. This training focuses on general strategies for parents to use in assisting their child in developing social skills.

Knowing the challenges that many parents face with significant breaks in services during the summer months, this training focuses on general strategies for structuring this time to minimize challenging behaviors and to maximize success.
